A Systematic Procedure for Estimating the Human Attribute Requirements of Occupations. Ergometric Research and Development Series Report No. 11.
Pass, J. J.; Cunningham, J. W.
A study was done (1) to derive a revised set of attribute-requirement weights for the 622 work elements (descriptions of work activities and conditions) contained in the job-rating instrument, the Occupation Analysis Inventory (OAI), on the 103 human attributes descriptions (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) in the Attribute Requirement Inventory (ARI) and determine their reliabilities, and (2) to derive a stable set of attribute-requirement estimates for a sample of 1,414 jobs using the revised weights in combination with OAI job ratings. Estimates of the requirements of the OAI work elements for the ARI attributes were obtained from fifteen judges, with each OAI work element receiving ten ratings on each of the ARI attributes. Both study objectives were realized. Substantial reliability coefficients were obtained for the attribute-requirement weights of the OAI work elements, and the reliabilities of the attribute-requirement estimates for jobs were moderate to high. (The appendix includes the rating instructions and a list of the ARI attributes, indexes of individual-group agreement for judges, attribute-requirement weights for OAI work elements, reliability estimates for the attribute-requirement ratings, titles and codes of the jobs included in the reliability analyses, and reliability coefficients of attribute-requirement estimates.)
