Teaching and Assessing Interpersonal Competence--A CAEL Handbook.
Breen, Paul; And Others
This handbook is intended to facilitate the teaching, learning, and assessment of college creditable interpersonal competence acquired or enhanced by experiential learning situations. Experiential learning may be a result of prior experience, such as community affairs and work experience, or may be sponsored by the college. The concept of interpersonal competence is discussed in detail, and a model representing interpersonal, communication, and management skills is presented. Procedures are suggested for identifying and categorizing interpersonal skills, appropriately stating students' learning objectives, discovering and utilizing potential experiential learning situations, and assessing the learning of interpersonal skills for academic credit. A program of assessment strategies which emphasizes the need for multiple techniques is described. (Author/MV)
