A Survey of the Applicants for the National Science Foundation Summer Institute on Computer Science at Shippensburg State College.

The 1969 National Science Foundation Summer Institute on Computer Science at Shippensburg State College attracted 765 applicants for the 30 available positions. The average applicant was 37 years of age, lived 878 miles from Shippensburg, and taught in a public high school with an enrollment of 1193 students. He had taught for 11 years, 8 1/2 in mathematics and 2 1/2 in science. His educational background included 37 hours of mathematics, 30 hours of education, 9.5 hours of physics, 9 hours of chemistry, 8 hours of biology, and 3 hours of earth science. The applicants were divided into subgroups according to the state in which they lived and compared to the group of 30 accepted applicants. The statistical data and computer programs are given.
