This publication stresses the importance of community action for environmental improvement. The community environmental education program is designed for high school students and for continuing education groups. Four topics related to the quality of life and the community are addressed: (1) Growth; (2) Transportation; (3) Land Use; and (4) Energy Consumption. Each of these topics is subdivided to provide the teacher with a seminar description, background information, suggested procedures or activities, and worksheets. A listing of related resources is also included. Teachers are encouraged to duplicate some of the materials, and a packet of inserts from the textbook is provided for this purpose. Instructional materials developed by the New York Department's Bureau of General Education Curriculum Development are listed in the back of the publication. (MA)
