Purplebook Delta: For Improving Performance in an Established Position in Higher Education.
Coole, Walter A.
The "Purplebook" is an essential part of the "Greenbook System", which is an integrated sequence of five individualized programs (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon) designed for the professional development of college educators. The Delta program is aimed at professional staff in higher education who are just completing probationary contracts or who have tenure, and presents an iterative program of performance-raising and job-enriching activities. It follows the establishment of a "Greenbook" analysis of a professional educator in higher education and cannot be pursued until one of the pre-entry programs has been completed. The staff member (1) reviews his knowledge of the institution, (2) accounts for minor job changes, (3) evaluates and re-specifies his major job, (4) raises his performance standards, and (5) checks his progress and makes decisions about future professional and personal growth. Appendices include: informal instructions on how to plan projects in an orderly, elegant manner, using "force field analysis"; a simple teacher-evaluation form which probes fourteen characteristics of good instruction; and a Dewey decimal classification system for use in a small office-filing system.
