Fall 1975 Entering Students Not Continuing in the Same Community College in Fall 1977. Student Flow Project, Report No. 33.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
A survey was conducted in fall 1977, among 857 non-continuing students who had continuously enrolled in one of Hawaii's seven community colleges between fall 1975 and spring 1977 but had not returned for the fall 1977 semester, in order to obtain information regarding their activities and educational plans, reasons for non-continuance, and evaluation of their college experience. Analysis of questionnaire responses (43%) indicated: (1) the main reasons for non-continuance were transferred (46%), work preference (13%), and unavailability of desired class (12%); (2) in spring 1977, 25% of the respondents were working full-time, 47% were working part-time, and 28% did not work; (3) in fall 1977, 42% of the respondents were working and 47% were attending another school; (4) respondents rated friendship with other students and faculty/student relations highly, with the variety of courses available receiving the lowest rating. The responses of this fall 1977 group appeared to be quite similar to those of spring 1976, fall 1976, and spring 1977 non-continuing students from the same fall 1975 entering group. Responses are summarized by program (liberal arts, business, health services, hotel and food services, public services, technology, and other), and the survey instrument and tabulated data are appended.
