First Year University Students' Attitudes Towards the Orientation Process.
Bush, Kate
Orientation in this report refers to the various adjustment processes that students need to make to function effectively within a postsecondary institution. The major aim of the study was to obtain an outline of the range of problems encountered by respondents at Flinders University in a 1975 questionnaire survey of their adaptation to the university environment. Additional aims were (1) to obtain these students' recommendations of methods that could alleviate transition difficulties, and (2) to obtain an evaluation from these people of the role that could be served by orientation camps in assisting the adjustment process. Questionnaires were mailed to 664 students and replies were obtained from 391. There were three areas of inquiry: an evaluation of the orientation camps, a description of the main adjustment difficulties, and respondents' suggested approaches for improvement. Details of the responses are included in the report. (LBH)
