La Bibliotheque Sonore et Ses Implications Pedagogiques (The Tape Library and Its Pedagogical Implications). Melanges Pedagogiques, 1974.
Harding, E.; Legras, M.
A survey was carried out at the University of Nancy to determine how many students visited the tape library and how often, in one academic year. The academic year investigated was 1973-1974. One hundred eight students visited the lab the first trimester, 45 the second, and 14 the third. In general it was found that the more advanced the students' level of proficiency in the target language, the more frequently they were likely to come to the lab. The advantages of the tape library are seen as: (1) it is suited to non-language majors; (2) it destroys the myths about the language lab; (3) it forces the student to reflect on the nature of the acquisition of oral language; (4) it changes the traditional concept of pedagogy; and (5) it constitutes an ongoing instructional aid for students who leave the academic institution for the professional world.
