Student Journals in the Communication Classroom: A Content Analysis.
DeWine, Sue
This study examined the effect of journal keeping on students' self-perception. Eighty-six students in interpersonal communication classes participated in instructional activities for an entire term. Two classes maintained a student journal throughout the course, and one did not. All students completed a self-analysis inventory during the first week of the class and again during the last week. Content analysis of the responses indicated that, compared with those who did not keep journals, the journal-keeping groups increased the positiveness of their evaluations of their own communication behavior.
