An Integration of the Visual Media Via "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" into the Elementary School Curriculum as a Teaching Aid and Vehicle to Achieve Increased Learning.
Cosby, William Henry, Jr.
This study examines the failure of urban schools to meet the educational needs of minority children and explores the possibilities of using television as a tool for educational change. It discusses three television series ("Sesame Street,""The Electric Company," and "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids") with regard to their success as teaching/learning instruments and their attempts to combat institutional racism; it then reports on an evaluation of the effectiveness of "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" as a teaching aid in the elementary classroom. The evaluation indicated that the series can serve as a useful addition to existing curriculum materials. (Author/GW)
