Organized Censors Rarely Rest.
Jenkinson, Edward B., Ed.
Indiana English Journal, v1 n1 Entire Issue Fall 1977
Although persons who want to censor school materials frequently organize their censorship attempts carefully and thoroughly, the school administrators and teachers under attack rarely are prepared to combat censorship activities. The articles in this journal issue inform educators about issues and current trends in censorship and suggest strategies that may be used in dealing with censorship attempts. Topics include preparing in advance for full-scale censorship campaigns; recent trends in censorship of books for adolescents; censorship and cultural conflict; recent censorship controversies in communities throughout the country; the rationale for obscenity laws; the dangers of recent trends involving censorship of sexist and racist books; court litigation related to censorship; and recent objections to the teaching of secular humanism in the schools.
