Beginning Broadcast Newswriting: A Self-Instructional Learning Experience.
Wulfemeyer, K. Tim
This workbook provides instruction in basic styles, principles, and techniques of broadcast news writing. After offering general guidelines, the workbook discusses writing broadcast news leads, using names correctly, placing titles and attributions in their proper place in sentences, writing direct and indirect quotations, using contractions, choosing correct words, using correct punctuation, and writing numbers in correct broadcast style. Exercises and self-tests provide practice in choosing the best broadcast news style from among several samples and in revising incorrect samples. The final section of the workbook offers practice in writing broadcast news stories based on information provided in news releases. For each story, a model and an analysis of the model are included.
