Trade and Industrial Education. Course of Study for Mine Equipment Maintenance.
Simms, James C., Comp.; Tweed, Stephen C., Comp.
Intended as a teaching and learning guide for use with high school students who are interested in the occupation of mine equipment repairman, this beginning course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills required to perform the tasks of a mine equipment repairman; acquire the related information necessary to exercise good judgment in carrying out the construction, maintenance, servicing, and repairing operations; and develop an appreciation of good workmanship, safety, and correct work habits and attitudes. The guide is designed as a three-year curriculum involving approximately fifteen hundred hours of class and laboratory instruction. It is arranged into the following seven units, representing the major divisions of the trade: orientation, health and safety, mine interior construction, mining procedures/machinery/equipment, mine mechanical maintenance, mine hydraulic maintenace, and mine electrical maintenance. Each unit includes job sheets and skill competency sheets. The job sheets are arranged in an order that gradually exposes the skill competencies and insures the introduction of each operation or skill competency in a controlled manner. Each job sheet includes the material and equipment needed, safety precautions, competency procedures/steps, corresponding teaching/learning activities, and method of evaluation. Operation sheets supplement the job sheets and indicate to the student how to perform the many skill competency operations necessary to complete the assigned jobs. Each includes behavioral objective, competency procedures/steps, corresponding teaching/learning activites, and method of evaluation. (BM)
