Data-Based Locally Directed Evaluation of Vocational Education Programs. Component 3. Assessing Student Career Interests.
Florida State Univ., Tallahassee. Program of Vocational Education.
Part of a system by which local education agency (LEA) personnel may evaluate secondary and postsecondary vocational education programs, this third of eight components focuses on assessment of student career interests. Procedures covered include determination of the student population to be surveyed, selection of the instrument, and discrepancy analysis. The component provides an overview of five popular standardized career interest inventories and suggestions for developing local instruments for assessing student interest. The focal point is the secondary level. However, suggestions are offered for assessing student career interests in adult schools, area vocational-technical centers, and at the community college. The five standardized instruments described are the Kuder Occupational Interest Survey (KOIS), the Minnesota Vocational Interest Inventory (MVII), the Ohio Vocational Interest Survey (VIS) the Self-Directed Search (SDS), and the Strong Vocational Interest Blank--Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SVIB-SCII). A glossary is appended. (Each of the other seven components and an overview guide, CE 011 609, are available separately.) (JT)
