The document presents 10 papers which offer a framework for improving educational field experience in master's level social welfare management programs. The guide is arranged in three parts. The two papers in part I, the orienting framework, present a set of value assumptions which govern the nature and effectiveness of social service delivery and sketch a set of theoretical models pertaining to social welfare administration. The five papers in part II, implementing structures, describe partnerships, settings, models, and evaluation as means by which the values and knowledge described in part I are implemented. Topics discussed include school agency partnership in developing effective learning situations, the relationship between class and field experience, learning settings, analysis of models of field experience currently used in social work schools, and evaluation of practice settings, field instructors, learning opportunities, and student progress. The two papers in part III, discussion of knowledge, skills, and values, present a model of the essential curricular components of a field experience program, a conceptual framework to guide curriculum design in the future, and a chart portraying managerial functions, knowledge required, performance objectives, practice assignments, and classroom content of a social welfare curriculum.
