A study was conducted at Valencia Community College (VCC) to evaluate VCC's success in meeting the community's need for volunteers, to determine the needs of student volunteers, and to discover what kinds of students were participating in the student volunteer program. Results of a questionnaire completed by 72 student volunteers indicated that volunteers were younger (20 or less), more apt to be female (72%), and more likely to be sophomores, than the student body as a whole. Student volunteers were like the overall student body in race, program of study, and veteran status. Students were satisfied with their training for volunteer work and with their agency supervisors, co-workers, and volunteer experiences. Responses from 39 receiving agencies revealed that the agencies were satisfied with the job performance of VCC volunteers, but that 49% felt that there should be more of them.
