Technician. Career with a Future.
Larson, David U.
This workbook is designed to provide helpful tips and useful information for anyone interested in a technical career. Through the ten chapters presented, information is provided to help the user select a career field of study, design a program of courses, verify that the program is correct, investigate possible schools, get through course work, overcome typical problems, and draw a continuing education plan. Charts and forms are included that allow the user to write in answers for specific activities. Chapter 1, Definition of a Technician, discusses typical employment activities, briefly describes twenty-three technology programs, and offers a list of resource materials. Chapter 2, Select a Career Field, provides a list of questions for assessing one's job preferences and provides addresses for professional groups in the technology field. Chapter 3, Check out the Career, offers a prioritized list of contacts to aid in making a career decision. Chapter 4, Take A Personal Inventory, primarily focuses on sources of educational credits. Outlines for a program of study, including selecting educational methods and investigating colleges, and adjusting to classes and the educational environment are discussed in chapters 5 through 8. Chapter 9 offers tips for succeeding in school, and chapter 10 discusses how to plan for the future in relation to the changing job market for technological careers. (SH)
