Governance and Task Interdependence in Schools: First Report of a Longitudinal Study.
Packard, John S.; And Others
This is an interim report of the longitudinal research presently being conducted by the staff of the Management Implications of Team Teaching (MITT) Project. The MITT Project examines a fundamental change in the organization of the instructional staff of the American elementary school generally referred to as team teaching or team organization. Such a reorganization could have profound implications for the locus of control over educational decisions, the structure of social relations of the faculty, the sense of fulfillment in work of individuals, and other "side-effects" of great significance to school administration. The MITT Project consists of two rather distinct investigations. The "prime" study is to verify particular findings from previous research that have been characterized as consequences of team organization. The "companion" study examines the considerations that make it more or less likely that a school, once committed to reorganization, will succeed in its implementation efforts. Chapters report on the selection of the subject schools, the development of measures, the preliminary findings, and the predicting of task interdependence of teachers. Appendixes contain questionnaires, tables, and reports of measures and findings. (Author/IRT)
