Communication and Decision Making in American Public Education: A Longitudinal and Comparative Study.
Zeigler, Harmon; And Others
This chapter summarizes and discusses the findings of a longitudinal comparative study of school board communication and decision-making in 11 selected school districts in the United States and Canada. The discussion focuses on patterns of communication and patterns of influence among school board members, school district administrators, and members of the public in 3 of the 11 study districts. Findings of the study showed that the superintendent clearly controlled the nature of communications at school board meetings and was the dominant actor in school district decision-making. (JG)
