Several intermediate performance objectives and corresponding criterion measures are listed for each of 25 terminal objectives presented in this guide for a basic business machine maintenance course at the secondary level. (For the intermediate course guide see CE 010 948.) The materials were developed for a two-semester (2 hour daily) course designed to provide training in the overall operations of business machines (function and repair of parts). Areas covered include understanding of theory movement, standard adjustments, alignment, type soldering, oiling procedures, and troubleshooting for electrical and mechanical machines. Titles of the 25 terminal objective sections are Orientation, Shop Layout and Tools, Basic Information, Pitch Information, Type Bar Soldering, Typewriter Carriage, Escapement, Segment Assembly, Ribbon Mechanisms, Tabulation Unit--Underwood Typewriter, Use and Features, Power Transmission, Power Shaft and Cams, Type Action Mechanism, Ribbon Lift and Feed Mechanism, Segment Shift Mechanism, Impression Control Mechanism, Backspace Mechanism, Input Control, Space Bar Mechanism, Carriage Tabulation Mechanism, Electric Margin, Carriage Return Mechanism, Half Spacing, and Troubleshooting.
