Open-Concept Programs in Open-Area Schools.
Musella, Donald; And Others
The objectives of this project were to study problems related to the development and implementation of an open concept school program, identify and describe alternative solutions to the problems of the various levels of school personnel, and prepare and try inservice programs for staff members in participating schools. The first section of the document presents a model for conducting inservice activities. Some implications of the basic assumptions underlying open education are also developed, and a method of evaluating aspects of open education programs is presented. The second section presents sample workshop segments. The third focuses on open plan schools--the advantages, disadvantages, problems, and problem solutions. The fourth section consists of a collection of papers presented at open education conferences. The topics include individualization of instruction, implications of volunteer parent programs, and several case studies relating teachers' and principals' experiences in developing and implementing aspects of open education in open plan schools.
