This paper describes an interdisciplinary high school course, "Cultural Diversity in American Life," taught by an English teacher, a social studies teacher, and an art teacher. Designed to help students understand and accept differences in culture, the course consists of units on the black American, the American Indian, the Jewish American, and the American woman. The author tells how the three teachers work together to plan and conduct the course, lists objectives and materials for each of the four units, and describes some of the in-class activities of the course. A supplementary paper answers questions which are frequently asked about the course: How can such a course be "sold" to administrators? How should the teachers be selected? What problems are experienced in teaching the course, and how can they be eliminated? The author includes a list of some bibliographies on the literature of cultural pluralism. (GW)
