Development of an Appropriate Method for Applying the Semantic Differential to the Measurement of Affective Outcomes of Instruction.
Davis, Richard W.
A method for statistical analysis of semantic differential data in educational evaluation is discussed. Estimated scores for unobserved affective variables are obtained using the canonical factor regression method. This method overcomes previous prolems of bias and inefficiency in computing composite affective indices. In an application of the technique, a two-week program of instruction was shown to produce significant changes in affective response to two of the eight concepts tested. (Author)
