The articles contained in the first half of this volume are by community college practitioners who have sought to stimulate instructional change. Articles in the second half of the volume suggest several different strategies for implementing needed change. Topics discussed include: a brief history and analysis of factors working for and against instructional change in the two-year college; a faculty member's personal evolution toward use of innovative instructional methods; the role of the department chairperson, the dean, the president, and of trustees in facilitating instructional change; faculty-determined, faculty development programs focusing on development of more effective instructional modes; the importance of an organizational climate conducive to instructional change; the role and effective use of external consultants; the role of the university in supporting instructional change in community colleges; the role of a staff development committee in facilitating change; and, the future of instructional change.
