The cost and funding studies project of the proposed Western Interstate Bibliographic Network began activities in July 1975. To support the development and implementation of western interstate bibliographic network capabilities, the project concentrated on the collection of cost data in western libraries, the impact of network services on libraries, and identification of economic issues confronting network development. Major achievements included: (1) analysis of data from 100 libraries; (2) development of a handbook on network cost considerations; (3) investigation of economic issues in the networking of library technical support services; and (4) development of cost analysis instruments for technical services and interlibrary loan. In addition to considering survey research and methodology issues, cost analysis and sampling techniques, the project established a basis for empirical economic study.
