The State of New Jersey's certification requirements mandate that school librarian professional preparation should include an internship program. Trenton State College offers such a program but lacks a formal policy manual outlining the necessary requirements and procedures. This study surveyed the current policies in the Department of Media Communication Science at Trenton State College, policies existing in other institutions with similar programs in the state, policies of cooperating school districts, and the new state certification laws. This resulted in the development of two policy manuals; one to assist the coordinator of the internship program in planning and implementation and one outlining procedures and competencies for the student intern.
