Women in New History Texts; the Iowa Plan for Book Challenges; Role-Playing in the Classroom.
Interracial Books for Children Bulletin, v7 n7 1976
This issue of the "Interracial Books for Children Bulletin" contains three articles. The first article is adapted from a forthcoming book which analyzes new history textbooks for evidence of racism and sexism. It can be used as a content rating instrument and is designed to enable teachers and students to evaluate and rate the texts used in their classrooms. It also serves as a source of supplementary information on third world peoples' and womens' history. The second article is about the Iowa Plan which describes a due process for handling book challenges. Accompanying this article is a description of a workshop on "Sensitivity to Challenged Material; An Orientation to Censorship". In the third article a teacher describes her use of role playing as a method for countering Native American stereotypes. (PR)
