Measures of Social Psychological Attitudes. Revised.
Robinson, John P.; Shaver, Phillip R.
This volume presents a systematic review and evaluation of the major empirical measures of social psychological attitudes. It is hoped that the form of presentation adopted in this work (which includes actual scale items and scoring instructions) will help the reader to make his or her own judgments about the current state of the art in social attitude research. This information is presented for each measure: the variable measured, a description of the measure, the sample, data on reliability and validity, where the measure may be located in the literature, results and comments, and references. The chapters are broken down as follows: (1) introduction, (2) measures of life satisfaction and happiness, (3) measures of self-esteem and related constructs, (4) measures of internal-external locus of control, (5) measures of alienation and anomia, (6) measures of authoritarianism, dogmatism, and related constructs, (7) other socio-political attitude measures, (8) measures of values, (9) measures of general attitudes toward people, (10) measures of religious attitudes, and (11) methodological scales primarily for the measurement of social desirability response set.
