A Review of the AIDP Project After the Second Year.
Broadbent, William A.
This document reports results of the activities engaged in by Leeward Community College in its second year of participation in the Advanced Institutional Development Program. Four primary areas were focused on in the college's development efforts: community outreach, student services, curriculum and instruction, and institutional renewal/staff development. Progress in each of these areas was not uniform. In the community outreach area, needs assessment was begun, outreach counselor training conducted, and a supervision program initiated. In the area of student services, an integrated services complex was begun, a strategy for developing an improved scheduling and registration procedure identified and progress made in the intended direction, and an operational system for granting non-classroom credit initiated. Most energy was expended in the area of curriculum and instruction, with new courses and programs being developed. In the area of institutional renewal/staff development, wide-ranging progress was made, from establishing a functioning office of institutional research to creation of an office of staff and instructional development. Numerous shortcomings in each of the areas which the college was seeking to develop were noted in order that future effort might be directed accordingly. (JDS)
