Describing Persons in Settings: Making the Affective Explicit.

In this chapter, a path to learning about individuals interacting with settings is proposed. Settings may be places where individuals work, live, care, become committed, or engage in any type of living. The path consists of observational and reflective techniques that may be fruitfully used by educators or any persons interested in enhancing the understanding of an individual as a whole being. The substantive focus of the path highlighted here is involvement--an individual's investment of self in interactions with persons, materials, or ideas. Guidelines for use of the involvement instrument are included along with an abbreviated version of the instrument. (Author/IRT)
