The Massachusetts Occupational Competence Access Project (OCAP) was designed to provide secondary school students with marketable skills and to increase their ability to make decisions about careers. The first year's efforts were primarily concerned with setting up the project and with inservice training for teachers, counselors, and administrators. Work was directed toward three projected OCAP components: A competency-based career guidance system, a skill outcome exploratory program, and a system of computerized student files. (When completed the student files may be linked with the project career data bank of more than 35,000 performance objectives for occupations and occupational clusters). Two career information centers were established and more are planned for additional schools.
