Effects of a Program of Career Education in Kentucky's Education Region XII: Phase Two. Final Report.
Omvig, Clayton P.
Data were gathered relevant to two components, professional staff and students, to identify and assess effective and/or ineffective practices and procedures in the second phase of a Regional Career Education Program conducted in eight Eastern Kentucky counties. The data base, collected in the 1974 study (Phase 1), was used to provide comparisons and to identify changes over time. Teachers who participated in the implementation of career education programs were given a Teacher Questionnaire and personal interviews to determine teacher's knowledge of and attitudes toward career education, the most to least effective methods of implementing career education, and problems affecting the success of career education. The student component, group samplings from grades 4, 6, 8, and 11, involved the use of a quasi-experimental design to study the effect of the career education program on the variables of academic achievement, career maturity, student attitudes, and student motivation. An extensive discussion of the findings are presented, supplemented by 62 tables. Recommendations relate to findings concerning both the staff and student components. A bibliography and the Teacher Questionnaire are included. (TA)
