Summarized are the findings and recommendations of a 2-year study of all major mental health, and mental retardation, alcohol, and drug abuse services and programs in Nevada. Fourteen chapters are given to the following topics (sample subtopics are in parentheses): description of the survey (scope of the project); summary and recommendations (problems with present services); the mentally handicapped population (population projections and analysis); Direction, an information-based service (problems with the Direction service in Nevada); (prevention of mental health disorders, mental retardation, and alcohol and drug abuse); identification (common problems with identification); special education and training services (needed improvements); nonresidential mental health services (children's behavioral services); treatment for alcohol and drug abuse (problems in the current delivery system); residential mental health and mental retardation services (medical facilities with psychiatric units); vocational services (private community vocational centers); medical services (private medical insurance); residential living (adult group care and family care facilities); and income assistance (county income assistance programs). Appendixes include information on vocational rehabilitation program and client characteristics, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, and California's Child Health and Disability Prevention Program.
