Maintaining Student Discipline in the Integrated School through the Cooperative Faculty/Student Approach...[And Other Papers].
The presentations of keynote speakers at four one-day workshops on student discipline are contained in this document. The first addresses the issue of maintaining student discipline in the integrated school through the cooperative faculty/student approach. Among the points made here are that discipline calls for a great deal of communication and that those behaviors that serve democracy well are those that ought to be developed in the service of discipline. A second paper addresses the problem of restoring student discipline in an integrated situation. Its purpose is to give information relative to possible actions when attempting to restore student discipline in an integrated situation. This approach embodies the establishment of a task force. A third paper addresses the issue of maintaining student discipline in the integrated school through the intercultural curricula. Major points of the presentation include what discipline is, problems in student discipline, racial-ethnic questions about student discipline and the curriculum, and positive aspects of student discipline. The problem of maintaining student discipline in the integrated school through conflict resolution is the topic addressed in the fourth paper. Among the major points covered are the following: vandalism and assaults, suspension, expulsion, and withdrawal, racial-ethnic student-teacher ratio, student discipline and school-community relations, and student discipline and due process.
