Migrant Education in Missouri, 1972. State Annual Evaluation Report for Migrant Programs, Title I, ESEA for Fiscal Year 1972.
Missouri State Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education, Jefferson City. Div. of Instruction.
Missouri's migrant program aimed to: raise the migrant children's educational level to that of other children in their age group; acquire a complete set of educational and health records for each child; screen and refer those children needing health services to the appropriate personnel; instill within parents and children the desire and need for a secondary education; and provide specialists to assist teachers, parents, and children as the need arises. During fiscal year 1972, 4,434 children, ranging from 1 to 17 years, were enrolled in the program. The majority of these attended schools located in the southeast section of the State. Evaluation data were obtained at the beginning, during, and at the end of the 1971-72 academic year or during the summer school term through visits and interviews and from records, reports, and test results which were used to substantiate the on-the-spot visits. This report includes information on the: children, innovative projects, most pressing educational needs, objective and subjective measurements, general program effectiveness, personnel and personnel training, interrelationship with the regular Elementary and Secondary Education Act Title I programs, community involvement, nonpublic school participation, and major problem areas.
