Five Year ABC Research Project "Anti-Social and Pro-Social Effects of Television on Children." Summary.
American Broadcasting Co., New York, NY.
This report summarized the results of a 5-year research investigation of the anti- and prosocial effects of television on children. At the outset of the investigation the focus of emphasis was on analyzing the possible antisocial effects of television on children, but about midway through the project the research was expanded to include possible prosocial effects of television on children. In the study, roughly 10,000 children in the 8 to 13 year old age range from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds were used as subjects in a variety of experiments. The net conclusion of the antisocial experiments was that under certain conditions and depending on the types of violence portrayed, exposure to televised violence is capable of producing increased inclination toward aggression in children.
