The general organization and functioning of the institution is reviewed in this 1972 handbook, along with various rules, procedures, and conventions. Some parts quote those formulations that have the effect of law throughout the university, such as bylaws and various policy statements formally adopted by the Board of Trustees, and rules promulgated by the University Senate. A historical sketch of the university, its organization and administration is presented, followed by details of interest to the faculty. These include: membership and meetings; titles; academic freedom and tenure; appointment; retirement; oath of office; teaching assignments; academic responsibilities; salaries; outside employment; degree candidacy; benefits; sabbatical leave; and awards. The library system is described, as are academic auxiliaries, services and facilities, social clubs, public relations, research, and policies on good order and discipline. (LBH)
