The 20 essays in this collection discuss accomplishments, shortcomings, and future concerns of the Southeast Alternatives Project (SEA), a federally funded project located in Minneapolis whichwas designed to explore alternatives in education. Teachers, administrators, students, parents, and school board members who were involved in the project between 1971 and 1976 are the authors of the articles. They deal with specific topics such as the role of community participation in SEA, the role of the teacher in alternative schools, administrative decentralization, the professional and personal effects of SEA on the teachers active in it, and the impact of SEA on the Minneapolis Public Schools.
