Maximizing the Mini for Administratice Computing.
Clarkson, Marcia Shonnard
A medium sized time-sharing minicomputer performs both administrative and academic computing for the University of the South. Some advantages of the system include the opportunity for student access to the terminals, and the creation of new student jobs involving computer activities. Also, the minicomputer system hardware is less expensive to run than a combined center. The main advantages of the system accrue to academic users because of the use of BASIC. Problems with the system center on administrative applications, difficulties using BASIC in commercial applications, the lack of a file management system, lack of an efficient sorting system, and contention for system time.
