These resource papers encourage the student to discover for himself the contributions to a problem made through original literature. Since some of the papers are controversial or contradict other papers, the student will need to evaluate them to determine his position. It is hoped that these papers will also foster an appreciation of the work of the scientists involved. This publication opens with two papers that spell out the problem of limited land--declaring man's numbers cannot continue to grow and take up more space. The following paper examines the present distribution of the American population and predicts future trends. Paper four questions who has the right to decide how the land is used. The pleasant aspects of suburban growth are covered in paper five; six and seven illustrate problems of rapidly sprawling growth. Paper eight sees a bleak future for the nation's cities, and nine claims that planners may be a city's worst enemies. Investigating city living is the subject of the next three papers. The concluding four papers deal with uses of land, pointing out the various values land has for man. (LS)
