This program guide, designed to be used in prekindergarten programs, was developed by the Jefferson County Public Schools in Lakewood, Colorado. The guide is organized into three major sections. The first section presents the philosophy of early childhood education on which the guide is based, a summary of the characteristics of young children at specific ages, and a description of the classroom environment. Section two gives specific performance objectives, sample activities, sample performance indicators, and suggested resources for five developmental areas: (1) personal-social, (2) aesthetic, (3) motor, (4) language, and (5) cognitive. Included in section three are a bibliography and appendices containing a guide for printing upper and lower case letters, several poems for use as finger plays, and examples of how to use the taxonomy of educational objectives for the cognitive domain.
