Institutional Self-Evaluation: The Title IX Requirement.

A general procedure for self-evaluation by educational institutions is outlined, with specific suggestions made for major areas of institutional operation. The proposals do not purport to be regulatory, but are believed to be consistent with the intent of regulatory obligations. Topics covered by the paper include: remedial and affirmative action; the general plan for self-evaluation; assurances required; effects of other requirements; designation of responsible employee; adoption of grievance procedures; dissemination of policy; membership practices of exempt organizations; admissions and recruitment; education programs and activities; assistance for foreign study awards; use of programs not operated by institutions; housing; comparable facilities; access to course offerings; counseling and use of appraisal and counseling materials; financial assistance; employment assistance to students; health and insurance benefits and services; marital and parental status; athletics; textbooks and other curricular materials; and summary of employment requirements.
