Management Internships: A New System for Youth Socialization and Learning. A Report and Proposal.
Wynne, Edward; And Others
This publication describes a proposed business management intern system designed to provide an alternative means of gaining employment skills for college-eligible high school graduates. In addition to discussing the design of such an internship program, the report also presents a proposal for conducting a four-year experiment to test and perfect the program design and to generate evaluative data. Under the internship program described here, interns would be hired by private employers and trained, over several years, to a job level typically occupied by entering employees with bacholor's degrees. The employers' training costs would be paid by both the interns and the government, based on the annual identifiable cost-per-student at typical state universities. (Author/JG)
