To meet the need for trained personnel in the agriculture building industry, an agricultural building serviceman program was developed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in this expanding field. The purpose of the study was to evaluate and improve the curriculum by determining the specific job skills required. Employers and former students were surveyed via a mailed questionnaire or personal interview. In addition to more general questions, each questionnaire included a list of over 50 skills required to build a pole-type structure, and respondents were asked to check the frequency of use of each skill in the work situation. Results of the survey are presented in both narrative and tabular form. Both employers and graduates felt that the present curriculum was adequate for entry-level employment. The four skills listed within the highest rank order by both employers and graduates were: locating corners of buildings, leveling corner poles, locating building lines, and testing corners for squareness. Students felt that the greatest weaknesses of the program were the number of students in the class and the length of the course. The appendix includes the survey cover letter and questionnaires. (RG)
