Comprehensive Career Planning System. Final Report.
Rockford Public Schools 205, IL.
The comprehensive vocational guidance program in Rockford, Illinois, included a career awareness curriculum at the elementary level, personality and interest exploration for the middle schools, and utilization of a career planning data retrieval system at the high school level. The third party evaluation utilized information from eight population groups to determine the various groups' degrees of awareness of the project goals, perceptions of effectiveness in meeting those goals, and involvement in project activities. Of the groups surveyed, elementary teachers and counselors were found to be receptive to career education and guidance programs. The parent group indicated support for the program but was found to be relatively uninformed about the total project. Appendixes, which comprise more than half of the document, contain: (1) four different career education elementary teacher opinionnaires; (2) tabulated results of the student evaluations of the Computerized Vocational Information system (CVIS) with percentages indicating the proportion of student responses by school and grade level; (3) survey instruments used with parents and senior high school counselors; (4) interview guides used with elementary, middle school, and high school principals and the central administration; (5) the suggested scope and sequence for the elementary phase; and (6) the CVIS occupational information script.
