The Yellow Brick Road: A Source Book of Career Guidance Strategies for the Elementary Counselor and Teacher.
Amatea, Ellen S.
The guide was developed to assist elementary school counselors and teachers in working together to provide children, grades K-5, with a school experience which addresses their career development needs through developing both affective and cognitive learnings. Part 1, The Importance of Career Guidance in the Elementary School, provides a general rationale for program development, and describes program content, the roles of the counselor, teacher, and principal, and methods for evaluation. Part 2, The Career Development Program, organized according to grade levels K-1, 2-3, 4-5, outlines a sequential program of developmental career guidance experiences which can be implemented within the existing framework of elementary schools. A total of 46 activities are presented each including information on goal area, concept, related behavioral and developmental objectives, materials required, procedures, and additional learning activities, when necessary. Part 3, Resources For Facilitating Career Development, presents four types of materials: an annotated listing of children's books; an annotated listing of multimedia teaching materials; a listing of background materials useful for teachers and counselors; and, a listing of publishers' series of children's career information books. Appended material includes student employment information, publishers' addresses, and title and author indexes. (LH)
