The document is a handbook for a vocational automotive service education program which was formulated as a result of a four-day series of intensive workshops called the National Automotive Service Vocational Education Conference. The handbook discusses the major components of an automotive service vocational education program and aspects of their importance to the overall program: (1) the structure, purposes, and makeup of the advisory committee, which comprises the foundation of the program, as well as the teacher-training committee and the State and national committee; (2) the instructor, who is responsible for the training of the student, and the processes involved in instructor recruitment, education, inservice guidance and training, and performance evaluation; (3) the student, the recruiting climate, qualifying and pretesting, counseling, and student Placement; (4) the curriculum, objectives, levels, and the need for flexibility as well as constrcting and updating the curriculum; (5) facilities and tools to provide the student with a real-life service shop and to meet teaching objectives; (6) test and measurement to improve evaluation; and (7) an ongoing program to meet changes in technology, education, teaching methods, and student needs.
