Based on a 1971 conference in Sweden, the booklet examines practical planning and operational aspects of day care centers for mentally retarded adults who cannot participate in sheltered work. Topics addressed are facility location in relation to transportation, community services, and group homes; size; design to accommodate self care training, meals, and vocational training in a barrier-free atmosphere; personnel allocations and functions; conferences, including goal planning and client meetings; activity content, including training in activities of daily living and motor skills; schedules; work training; and compensation.
