This book has its origins in an international conference organized by the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation and held in Slaugham, England, in October 1973. The conference brought together an international group of practitioners, administrators, and theoreticians. The five presentations included in the book deal with community development, the use of community resources by the schools, the implications of alternative schools, the relations between the school and the place of work, and the consequences of participation.
