This volume contains lesson plans for grades 4 through 8 on the contributions of Blacks, Latinos, and First Americans and on prejudice and racism. The lesson plans are presented within the framework of main ideas, activities for the ideas, and resources for the activities. The section on racism includes definitions and examples of racism. The section on Blacks, First Americans and Latinos are developed in a chronological manner. The Black section deals with the Pre-Columbian Period, Exploration and Colonization, Developing Another Nation, and Struggle for Identity and Equality. First American topics are Pre-Columbian, Columbian Period, Developing Another Nation 1775, Western Imperialization, and Struggle for Identity and Equality. The Latino materials include General Background Information, Mexican Indian Cultures of the Pre-Columbian Period, It is suggested that the handbook be used as a reference upon which the teacher can build.
